Two Possible Apprenticeships: The EBA/AFP and the EFZ/CFC

EBA/AFP System Restoration Employee:

Are you looking for hands-on training with just one day of professional classes per week? Then the EBA/AFP in restaurant operations is for you! You'll learn all the essential operational skills in our restaurants, discovering all the different roles in the kitchen, service, and stock and order management. The EBA/AFP will allow you to become a qualified team member in our restaurants.

First Year Of Apprenticeship - EBA/AFP

  • Cooking: preparing and assembling ingredients
  • Service / Lobby / Checkout / Drive-Thru: welcoming and advising guests
  • Inventory management
  • Food hygiene and safety

EBA/AFP's First-Year Salary: CHF 1,020.

2nd Year Of Apprenticeship - EBA/AFP

  • Sale
  • Order of goods
  • Stock inventory
  • Planning of marketing activities (tastings)
  • Event planning

EBA/AFP 2nd Year Salary: CHF 1,300.

EFZ/CFC System Restoration Manager:

Do you want to quickly take on responsibilities, train new employees, and learn how to manage a team? Then discover the Federal Certificate of Competence (CFC) in Restaurant Management! Our goal is to train you as a manager by the end of your 3-year apprenticeship. You will then be responsible for supporting the team and ensuring the smooth running of busy periods. Sales and restaurant analysis will become second nature to you.

First Year Of Apprenticeship - EFZ/CFC

  • Cooking: preparing and assembling ingredients
  • Service / Lobby / Checkout / Drive-Thru: welcoming and advising guests
  • Purchasing goods and inventory management
  • Food hygiene and safety

Salary for first-year apprenticeship (EFZ/CFC): CHF 1,020.

2nd Year Of Apprenticeship - EFZ/CFC

  • All the activities of the 1st year
  • Onboarding of new employees
  • Guest support (birthdays, surveys, service, etc.)
  • Marketing activities (promotions, etc.)
  • Partial management of a quarter

Salary for 2nd year EFZ/CFC: CHF 1,300.

3rd Year Of Apprenticeship- EFZ/CFC

  • All activities from the 1st and 2nd year
  • Establishing the team's work schedule
  • Supervising the team during a shift (lunch/evening rush)
  • Controlling expenses and analysing key restaurant figures
  • Hygiene standards control

3rd Year EFZ/CFC Salary: CHF 1,550.

FAQ: System Gastronomy Apprentice

What is the System Gastronomy apprenticeship at McDonald’s?

The System Gastronomy apprenticeship is designed for young people who have completed obligatory school. It offers the opportunity to discover the professional world over 2 years for the AFP/EBA and 3 years for the CFC/EFZ.

Apprentices first become familiar with the different workstations in the restaurant during the first two years of training. During the third year of the CFC/EFZ, they discover restaurant cost management and people management. They also learn how to manage a shift and lead a team.

The variety of tasks is a real asset for young people, who appreciate always having something to do!

How long is the training and how is it structured?

Apprenticeship training is divided during the week between:

  • 3–4 days per week in the restaurant, and
  • 1–2 days per week at the Intercantonal Vocational School of Eastern Switzerland in Zürich and in the Western Switzerland in Montreux (VD).

Apprentices attend courses covering:

  • Planning and organization of processes
  • Procurement and preparation of products
  • Sales and customer service
  • General subjects such as English and general culture

Apprentices also attend several intercompany training days, spread over the two years of the AFP/EBA or three years of the CFC/EFZ.

What skills will I acquire?

Planning and organization of processes are at the core of system gastronomy. You will learn how to manage food products, deliveries, stock, as well as welcoming and serving our guests.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop key skills such as:
