Employees in McDonald's restaurants are subject to the National Collective Labour Agreement for Hotels, Restaurants and Cafés (L-GAV/CCNT). McDonald's offers a salary in line with the L-GAV/CCNT or cantonal minimum wages, with the level of training and years of experience, including a 13th salary.
In principle, we hire young people from the age of 16. However, young people over the age of 13 can participate in the LIFT program (integration program in the world of work) and young people from the age of 14 can begin an AFP or CFC apprenticeship.

Employees have access to an internal platform for all theoretical training, including courses on food management, quality control, sales, etc. Practical training is then given directly at the restaurant. The new employee is accompanied by a competent trainer.

The salary of a manager at McDonald's depends on different factors such as training and experience. In Switzerland, the salary is generally at least CHF 4'295.- per month for a Shift Leader position, CHF 5'200.- per month for an Assistant position and CHF 6'100.- as a Restaurant Manager (manager).

The objective of the training is to offer opportunities for development as a shift coordinator after obtaining the CFC. In addition, career developments as a 1st or 2nd assistant are also possible.
The training of apprentices is divided during the week, between 3-4 days a week at the restaurant and 1 to 2 days a week at the French-speaking intercantonal school in Montreux (VD). Apprentices take courses on process planning and organization, product procurement and preparation, sales and customer consulting, as well as general subjects such as English and general knowledge. Apprentices also take several days of intercompany courses spread over the three years.
The System Gastronomy apprenticeship is designed for young people who have completed obligatory school. It offers the opportunity to discover the professional world over 2 years for the AFP/EBA and 3 years for the CFC/EFZ.
Apprentices first become familiar with the different workstations in the restaurant during the first two years of training. During the third year of the CFC/EFZ, they discover restaurant cost management and people management. They also learn how to manage a shift and lead a team.
The variety of tasks is a real asset for young people, who appreciate always having something to do!
Apprenticeship training is divided during the week between:
- 3–4 days per week in the restaurant, and
- 1–2 days per week at the Intercantonal Vocational School of Eastern Switzerland in Zürich and in the Western Switzerland in Montreux (VD).
Apprentices attend courses covering:
- Planning and organization of processes
- Procurement and preparation of products
- Sales and customer service
- General subjects such as English and general culture
Apprentices also attend several intercompany training days, spread over the two years of the AFP/EBA or three years of the CFC/EFZ.
Planning and organization of processes are at the core of system gastronomy. You will learn how to manage food products, deliveries, stock, as well as welcoming and serving our guests.
